About This Project

The University of Sydney Faculty of Arts and Science (FASS) was established in 1852 and has since become recognised as one of the world’s leading university faculties for Arts and Humanities and Social Sciences, ranking in the top 30 since 2017.

In a 21st Century world that is technologically driven, it was imperative that the University of Sydney’s FASS learning environment was contemporary and reflective of current trends. Concept AV were therefore contracted in 2018 by the university to integrate state-of-the-art audio visual systems in the new FASS building.

This 6-storey sustainably designed building saw Concept AV fit-out a Research Centre, Lecture Theatres, General Teaching Spaces, Meeting Rooms, and open workstations.

Lecture Theatre

The FASS building has 2 lecture theatres, designed to address large cohorts within the faculty. The GTS Theatre, the largest space in the building, was fitted out with two 12,000 Lumen Panasonic Projectors and 225’’ motorized projection screens. In addition to these large presentation points, a Sharp 80’’ Flat Panel Interactive Display was installed, facilitating collaboration between the lecturer and students.

Other key components of this space included a lectern presenter point fixed with a 20’’ preview monitor, personal device connection points, Elmo Document Camera, and a gooseneck microphone. Both lavalier and wireless handheld Shure microphones from the ULXD range were also provided to enable the presenter the flexibility to move and engage with students.

To mitigate the limitations of physical distance, 2 QSC PTZ cameras were installed in the space with an ECHO recording device. Lecture sessions are therefore able to be recorded and viewed by students and relevant personnel at a later stage.

6 Tannoy ceiling speakers were installed throughout the space, with an additional 2 Tannoy front of house speakers.

Student Pod Zoom Rooms

Concept AV integrated Zoom video conferencing and AV equipment into 30 meeting rooms and open huddle workstations. The smaller spaces were comprised of Sharp Interactive Touch Screen LCD Monitors and Logitech Meetups. The medium meeting rooms were fitted out with a Vaddio PTZ camera, and ClearOne Chat 150 Microphones. For the larger meeting rooms, a more extensive AV system was installed. These systems featured a 5,000 lumen NEC projector, 110’’ Motorised Screen, 2 Shure MXA910 Ceiling Microphones, 2 Vaddio PTZ Cameras, and a number of Tannoy ceiling and front of house speakers
