The University of Sydney was exploring how a single environment could support multiple approaches to teaching and learning, rather than being limited to a single fixed room configuration.
The environment was designed around distinct teaching modes, allowing it to transition between whole-room learning, independent seminar areas and focused group collaboration.
Behind the scenes, a sophisticated combination of audio, video, cameras and control needed to work together. For academics, however, the experience had to remain familiar and straightforward.
From presenting to the entire room to sharing ideas in smaller groups, the environment offers academics and students different ways to communicate, contribute, and share content.
Automation and intelligent control help the underlying technology adapt as the space changes, supporting different room configurations without requiring users to manually reconfigure individual systems.
The completed project was named a finalist for Education Project of the Year at the 2024 Inavate APAC Awards, recognising the thinking and technology behind the learning environment.
